About The Course

Effective practice starts with a comprehensive assessment of the risks, needs and strengths of the individual. This course covers the key concepts needed for good assessment practice and will help practitioners use their skills and professional judgement together with structured tools to produce high quality assessments.

This course helps participants to deepen their understanding of concepts such as static risk factors and the uses and limitations of assessment tools. We look at the contribution of the “What Works” research and the importance of identifying risk factors, as well as protective and desistance factors. The course will help practitioners develop the skills necessary to make effective use of structured assessment instruments and complements specific training on these tools.
